Laurel de Indias

Especie alóctona de origen tropical. Su distribución es propia de todo el sur de Asia llegando hasta Australia.

Magnífico árbol de sombra para jardines y parques que llega a alcanzar 30 metros de altura, generando una extensa y tupida copa. También se le llama vulgarmente “matapalo” o “dendrocida” debido a que su semilla, depositada por la deyección de algún ave u otro animal, puede germinar sobre la copa de otro árbol (especie epifita). Es entonces cuando emite sus típicas raíces aéreas que deslizándose por el tronco del árbol anfitrión alcanzan el suelo, engrosando y llegando a estrangularlo, ocupando así su lugar ya sin competencia.

The Indian Laurel

An alien species of tropical origin, its habitat is southern Asia and reaches as far south as Australia.

A magnificent shade tree for gardens and parks that can reach 30 meters in height, creating an extensive and dense crown, also commonly called "killer tree" or "dendroid" as its seed, delivered through the excrement of any bird or other animal, can germinate on the crown of another tree (epiphyte species). It is then when it shoots its typical aerial roots which glide down the trunk of the host tree to reach the ground, thickening and strangling the latter, taking its place without a fight.
