Las especies autóctonas

Tenemos ante nosotros una pequeña recreación de cómo es un bosque de alcornoque, un tipo de bosque mediterráneo muy rico en cuanto a biodiversidad y que antaño ocupaba gran parte del territorio del municipio de Marbella. Si observamos con atención existen dos especies diferentes, una de ellas el alcornoque, Quercus suber, que formaría la estructura arbórea del bosque y la otra especie es el madroño, Arbutus unedo, este último, al ser de una altura inferior, ocuparía el sotobosque.

Este tipo de formaciones con especies autóctonas son muy importantes en los jardines y tramas urbanas de la ciudad. Suponen una nueva forma de gestionar los mismos atendiendo a criterios sostenibilidad tal y como debe ser una ciudad verde. Las especies autóctonas en los jardines poseen diversas ventajas, entre ellas el menor consumo de agua, la mayor resistencia a las plagas y, sobre todo, un aumento de la biodiversidad en las ciudades donde las aves son las más beneficiadas.

Indigenous species

We have here in front of us a small recreation of a cork oak forest, a very abundant Mediterranean forest in terms of biodiversity which was once a very large part of territory of the municipality of Marbella. If we look attentively, we will realize that there are two different species, one is the cork oak, Quercus suber, that would form the main tree structure of the forest and the other species is the Madrone, Arbutus unedo, the latter is a shorter variety and it could be found in the underbrush.

This type of formations with native species are very important in gardens and urban areas in the city. They represent a new trend as a result of the sustainability criteria of how a green city should be. To have native species in a garden purports several advantages, among them, the lower consumption of water, more resistance to pests, and especially, an increase of the biodiversity in the cities where the birds are highly benefited.
